“This was one of our favorite grant requests,” said Matt Murphy, president of Oklahoma City Midtown Rotary. “What high school student doesn’t want to learn to play the guitar?”
Each year, Rotary District 5750 invites its clubs to apply for grants that will have a large impact on their local communities. While the district contributes the majority of funds required, each club must provide the remaining portion of the costs associated with each grant project.
Midtown Rotary uses funds raised through their annual Spelling Bee(r) event to determine how many grants they submit to the district for consideration.
With the help of a district grant, the club was able to purchase and deliver just over $1,000 worth of guitar textbooks and other materials to the high school.
